
<p><strong>Fauja Singh Death:</strong> Punjab Police have arrested a 30-year-old NRI (Amritpal Singh Dhillon) in connection with the hit-and-run death of legendary marathon runner Fauja Singh. Police have also recovered his Fortuner SUV. This action comes within 30 hours of the 114-year-old athlete&#8217;s death. According to police, after the accident, Dhillon attempted to reach his ancestral village, Kartarpur, via several villages, leaving Jalandhar city.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">To Appear in Court Today</h2>



<p>Dhillon, a resident of Dasupur village, Kartarpur, Jalandhar, was apprehended late Tuesday night and is being questioned at the Bhupur police station. He will be produced in court today and may be taken into police remand.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Police Recover Fortuner</h2>



<p>According to police, officers compiled a list of suspect vehicles following the incident. Late Tuesday evening, officers identified a Fortuner SUV. Preliminary investigations also revealed that the vehicle was registered in the name of Varinder Singh, a resident of Kapurthala.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lives with Mother and Three Sisters in Canada</h2>



<p>Jalandhar police teams immediately went to Kapurthala to question Varinder Singh. During questioning, Varinder revealed that he had sold the car two years ago to Amritpal Singh Dhillon, an NRI who had recently returned from Canada. Police also stated that Dhillon has three sisters and his mother resides in Canada.</p>



<p>Dhillon claimed he did not know at the time that the deceased was Fauja Singh and only learned of the marathon runner&#8217;s death later through news reports. Fauja Singh, affectionately known as ‘Pagdihari Baawandar’, died on Monday after being hit by an unknown vehicle while walking in his ancestral village of Byaas in Jalandhar district.</p>

<p><strong>India Leads Internet Data Usage:</strong> India has jumped 93 places in the global ranking of average internet speed over the past two years, reaching 26th position. </p>



<p>However, when it comes to global data usage, India remains the world&#8217;s number one country. According to the Ericsson Mobility Report, India has a monthly per capita data consumption of 32 GB, the highest globally. </p>



<p>In comparison, this figure stands at 29 GB in China and 22 GB in the USA. According to some other sources, in 2024, the average data consumption in India was 24.6 GB per user, significantly higher than the global average of 19 GB.</p>



<p>Ookla&#8217;s internet speed dataset shows that India&#8217;s median download speed was 136.53 Mbps during April-June 2025. This represents a 93-point improvement in India&#8217;s ranking from 119th position in September 2022, when the average internet speed was 13.87 Mbps. The report states that India is rapidly closing the gap in internet speed with other major global markets. The main reason for this is the rapid expansion of 5G coverage in the country.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">China Ahead of the US in Internet Speed</h2>



<p>Compared to other large countries, the USA holds the 13th global ranking with a speed of 176.75 Mbps, while China ranks 8th with 207.98 Mbps. The report mentions that the expansion of the 5G network in India is one of the fastest internet speed expansions in the world.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">5G Towers Account for 57% in India</h2>



<p>According to media reports, 5G towers now constitute 57% of the total telecommunication towers in India. By March 2025, India&#8217;s 5G subscriber base reached 3.26 million, representing 28% of total wireless connections.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Indians Lead in App Usage</h2>



<p>According to consultancy firm EY, in 2024, Indians spent 4.9 hours per day on phone apps, a 3.1% increase from 2023. Overall, India spent over 110,000 crore hours on digital platforms, the highest globally.</p>

<p>Rajasthan alone can not only reduce China&#8217;s dominance in rare earth mineral production but also supply other countries. Surveys by the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and the Atomic Minerals Directorate (AMD) have revealed large reserves of rare earth minerals in Bhati Kheda in the Siwana tehsil of Balotra. Note that currently, 90 per cent of the world&#8217;s rare earth elements are produced in China. These include 17 types of rare elements, which are in high demand in modern technology.</p>



<p>According to official sources, the GSI and AMD are continuing surveys in several places in Balotra and Jalore districts. The survey work in Bhati Kheda area of Siwana tehsil in Balotra district is almost complete, and the auction process for mining will begin soon. For rare minerals, the central government auctions mining leases to private companies or state government agencies. Since there are no wildlife sanctuaries or similar areas nearby in Bhati Kheda, it is believed that there will be no environmental or local-level obstacles.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Country&#8217;s First Mining in Hard Rock</h2>



<p>Dr. Chandraprakash Dadhich, Senior Geologist, Mining Department, Barmer, said that Bhati Kheda block contains rare elements in hard rock granite. This will be the country&#8217;s first block with rare mineral reserves in hard rock. These are usually found in smaller quantities in hard rock. According to GSI officials, a G2 level survey has been completed here, meaning large reserves of rare earth elements have been confirmed.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">State to Become a Hub for Rare Minerals</h2>



<p>Rare earth elements are used in electronics, green energy, defence, high-power magnets, aerospace, and other equipment manufacturing. There is a huge demand for them in the global market. Surveys are underway for rare earth minerals in Barmer, Balotra, and Jalore. Experts believe that by discovering and evaluating mineral reserves, accurate mapping, strengthening technology and infrastructure, and attracting investors for mining, Rajasthan can become a major hub for rare earth minerals.</p>

<p>The water level of the Jawai Dam, the largest in western Rajasthan, is set to rise. Even without rainfall, water will flow into the Jawai river and reach the Jawai Dam. The Water Resources Department, Jawai division, has released water from the Sei Dam, a tributary of Jawai, by opening its gates. Approximately 530 MCFT of water will reach Jawai from the Sei Dam.</p>



<p>Due to good rainfall in the Aravalli ranges, the Sei Dam, a tributary of the Jawai Dam with a capacity of 1618 MCFT and a gauge of 10.03 meters, is filled up to 5.90 meters. The dam currently holds 781 MCFT of water. Considering the possibility of rainfall in the remaining days of Ashadh along with Shravan and Bhadrapad in the dam&#8217;s catchment area, the gates of the Sei Dam were opened in the presence of Executive Engineer Raj Bhanwarayat, Assistant Engineer Ankksha Rawat, and Junior Engineer Abhishek Charan from the Water Resources Department. The water from the Sei Dam is expected to flow through the Sei tunnel into the Jawai river and reach the Jawai Dam soon.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Jawai Dam Gauge at 17.35 Feet</h2>



<p>The gauge of the Jawai Dam, built on the Jawai river, with a storage capacity of 61.25 feet (7327.50 MCFT), was 17.35 feet (1083.50 MCFT) on Monday morning. The dam&#8217;s water level will increase with the inflow from the Sei Dam. So far, 171 mm of rainfall has been recorded in the dam area.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Decision Made Due to River Recharge</h2>



<p>The decision to release water from the Sei Dam was made to recharge the Jawai river. Secondly, there has been continuous rainfall in the Aravalli ranges, leading to an inflow of water into the Sei Dam. The river and other routes from Sei to Jawai Dam are recharging. Due to this, the water loss from Sei to Jawai will be minimal.</p>


<p>The water level of the Jawai Dam, the largest in western Rajasthan, is set to rise. Even without rainfall, water will flow into the Jawai river and reach the Jawai Dam. </p>

<p>A shocking incident recently unfolded in Pakistan. A man was mistakenly put on the wrong flight and sent to another country. Malik Shahzain, who boarded a flight on July 7th from Lahore to Karachi, experienced something completely unexpected. Instead of Karachi, he ended up in a different country altogether.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What happened?</h2>



<p>On July 7th, Shahzain, who was travelling on AirSial from Lahore to Karachi, was mistakenly sent to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Shahzain, an electrical engineer, was returning to Karachi to be with his sick child. He showed his boarding pass at Lahore airport, but airline staff, without properly checking, seated him on an international flight to Jeddah. International flights require passports and visas, but the airline staff failed to check either. After a two-hour flight, when the plane didn&#8217;t reach Karachi, Shahzain questioned the pilots, and the mistake was discovered.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sent back to Pakistan</h2>



<p>At Jeddah airport, Shahzain faced lengthy questioning as he lacked a passport and visa. After understanding the situation, Saudi authorities acknowledged the airline&#8217;s negligence and instructed that Shahzain be sent back to Pakistan. However, AirSial sent him back to Lahore instead of Karachi, stating that he would have to buy a new ticket himself to reach Karachi. His luggage, however, arrived correctly in Karachi.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Shahzain sends legal notice to the airline</h2>



<p>Following the incident, Shahzain has served AirSial with a legal notice, demanding compensation for the inconvenience and additional travel expenses caused by the airline&#8217;s negligence. The Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority has launched an investigation into the matter, and Lahore airport management has termed it as AirSial&#8217;s negligence and irresponsibility. The Federal Investigation Agency is also investigating how a passenger was allowed to board an international flight without a passport and visa. AirSial has yet to issue any official apology or statement on the matter.</p>

<p><strong>Monsoon Rain:</strong> Monsoon rains continue across the country. Intermittent rainfall has been reported across many parts of the country for the past 24 hours. Today, a red alert has been issued for Ajmer, Nagaur, and Pali districts of Rajasthan. An alert for extremely heavy rainfall has been issued. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has instructed people in these districts to exercise caution. Meanwhile, a warning for heavy rainfall has also been issued for Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Jalore in Rajasthan. In the past 24 hours, 24 people have died in various incidents due to heavy rainfall in Rajasthan.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Possibility of Hailstorms in Bihar</h2>



<p>There is a possibility of hailstorms in the southern parts of Bihar. The Meteorological Department stated that there is a likelihood of very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Jamui, Nawada, and Gaya districts. An orange alert has been issued in this regard.</p>

<p>A heartbreaking incident has come to light from Chhatarpur district in Madhya Pradesh. Three young siblings died after drowning in water. The entire village is mourning, and the family is devastated. Upon receiving information, the police arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies, prepared a panchnama, and sent the bodies to the district hospital for post-mortem.</p>



<p>It is reported that the three children, residents of Hatwa village under the Prakash Bamhori police station area, had gone to their field after returning from school with the intention of planting a mango tree. While playing near a pond filled with rainwater near the field, they accidentally went into deeper water and drowned.</p>

<p>The death of a 28-year-old student from Fakirmohan College in Balasore district, Odisha, has sent shockwaves across the nation. Opposition parties have targeted the BJP-led Odisha government following the incident. Congress has called for a statewide shutdown in Odisha on July 17th to protest the incident. <p>Congress has called for a statewide ‘bandh’ in Odisha on July 17th. The student, a victim of sexual harassment, attempted self-immolation on July 12th and succumbed to her injuries three days later. Congress has questioned the BJP government in Odisha following the student&#8217;s death. The Odisha Congress President, Bhakta Charan Das, and leaders from eight political parties held a joint press conference at the Congress Bhavan on Tuesday, announcing the statewide ‘bandh’ on July 17th in conjunction with these parties.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Rahul Gandhi blames the system</h2>



<p>Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, stated that the death of a daughter fighting for justice in Odisha is a direct murder by the system. The Congress MP wrote on X (formerly Twitter), that the brave student raised her voice against sexual exploitation, but instead of justice, she was threatened, harassed, and repeatedly humiliated. He held the college principal and the lecturer&#8217;s negligence, along with the apathy of the district administration and the government, responsible for the incident.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What is the full story?</h2>



<p>The 20-year-old student, who had set herself on fire on the college campus, was admitted to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, for the past few days and died late Monday night. The student was referred from Balasore District Hospital on July 12th. She received all necessary medical facilities, including IV support, ventilation, antibiotics, and renal therapy. She suffered 90% burns. The hospital reported that she died at 11:46 PM on July 14th during treatment.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Long-standing complaints of sexual harassment</h2>



<p>The student had been complaining about sexual harassment by her department head for a long time. It is alleged that neither the college principal nor other responsible officials took any concrete action on her complaints. She was constantly threatened and humiliated. <p>A tragic incident occurred on an AirAsia flight from Malaysia to India. A passenger died mid-flight, causing commotion among fellow travellers.</p>



<p>The AirAsia flight was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) in Tamil Nadu. A 50-year-old passenger suffered a fatal heart attack on Wednesday morning. Despite the airline crew&#8217;s best efforts, they were unable to save him.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Passenger Identified as Sasikumar from Sivaganga District</h2>



<p>The deceased has been identified as Sasikumar, a resident of Ilayangudi in Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu. Reports suggest he had travelled to Malaysia for personal work and was returning on the AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Tiruchirappalli early Wednesday morning.</p>



<p>Mid-flight, he complained of severe discomfort and collapsed in his seat. Eyewitnesses reported that the airline crew immediately rushed to his aid, attempting CPR and first aid, and contacting ground medical personnel.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Assistance from a Doctor on Board</h2>



<p>A doctor travelling on the same flight assisted the crew in their efforts to save Sasikumar. Sasikumar remained unconscious throughout the remainder of the flight.</p>



<p>Other passengers were shocked by the event and tried to assist the airline crew in saving their fellow passenger. Passengers expressed their sorrow over the incident.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sudden Heart Attack Mid-Flight</h2>



<p>After the flight landed at Tiruchirappalli International Airport, airport doctors boarded the plane to examine the passenger, but Sasikumar had already passed away. Preliminary reports suggest he suffered a sudden heart attack while the plane was in flight.</p>



<p>Airport authorities informed the deceased&#8217;s family and initiated the necessary procedures. The body was subsequently taken to Tiruchirappalli Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Information regarding any pre-existing medical conditions is currently unavailable.</p>

<p>Indian Railways has once again revised its reservation services. Under the new system, the maximum limit for issuing waiting tickets has been fixed. Now, in mail/express trains, only twice the number of available seats in AC Executive and First Class will be issued as waiting tickets. In Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains, a maximum of 60% waiting tickets will be issued in these classes. Under the new system, in mail/express trains, the maximum waiting list limit for AC Second, Third and Chair Car will be 60% of their seat availability.</p>



<p>In Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains, this limit will be a maximum of 40% in these classes. Meanwhile, in sleeper and chair car classes, a maximum of 40% waiting tickets will be issued in excess of the number of seats. Earlier, on 17 April, the Railway Board had issued an order to all zonal railways and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) in this regard. According to it, the number of waiting tickets was limited to 25% of the available seats. Following this, the reservation system was amended to fix the waiting list limit class-wise.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">PRO Confirms</h2>



<p>Naval Agrawal, PRO of the Bhopal Railway Division under Madhya Pradesh, confirmed during a media interaction that earlier there was no fixed limit on waiting tickets. This allowed touts and unauthorised agents to book tickets illegally. Now, the waiting list has been capped as a percentage, class-wise. This new system will directly benefit genuine passengers.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What Impact Will It Have?</h2>



<p>Now, the waiting list in any train will not go up to 250-300. If there are 100 seats in AC First Class, a maximum of 100 people will be given waiting tickets. After that, tickets in that class will not be issued for the respective train. This will curb the practice of getting tickets issued and then getting them confirmed through unofficial means. At the same time, the crowds caused by those travelling on waiting tickets will also be controlled.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">This Rule Will Not Apply To</h2>



<p>This new rule on the limit of waiting tickets will not apply to concessional tickets or government travel warrants. This means that persons with disabilities, those travelling on medical quota, defence personnel and other eligible persons will continue to be given priority as before.</p>


<p>Bhopal Railway Division PRO Navl Agrawal (नवल अग्रवाल) has confirmed the new railway arrangements. He explained how passengers will directly benefit from these changes.</p>

<p>BTEUP Secretary Ajit Kumar Mishra informed that the results of a total of 220 students have been withheld due to allegations of using unfair means in the examination, as per the decision of the examination committee. In addition, 2533 students who wrote mobile numbers in their answer sheets during the examination have been awarded zero marks in the respective subject.</p>

<p>Youth in Uttar Pradesh aspiring to become teachers have received great news. The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) is commencing the recruitment process for 7466 LT Grade Teacher positions in the state. The commission has announced this through a notification. The commission will release the detailed notification for this recruitment on 28 July. The online application process will also begin on the same day.</p>

<p>According to the information provided by the commission, online applications for the LT Grade Teacher recruitment will begin on 28 July, and candidates can apply until 28 August 2025. <p><strong>Railway Coach Factory Vacancy:</strong> Integral Coach Factory (ICF), a unit under the Indian Railways, has announced a recruitment drive for a large number of apprentice positions.
